INDIVIDUAL THERAPY

Who is Individual Therapy for? Individual therapy is for anyone who is experiencing life transitions, emotions that are too big to handle on your own, or anyone who is looking to grow into their full potential. Life transitions could include moving, starting over, getting married or divorced, losing a significant person in your life, watching your children grow up and out, or watching your parents grow old and frail. Transitions bring about strong, often conflicting emotions – I can help you sort out what you are feeling, to help you make sense of it all, and to plan a course of action that will carry you through this difficult time. If you are experiencing anxiety, depression, fear, grief, loss, or identity issues please know that you do not have to go through this time alone. I will walk with you and hold onto the belief that there will be a better tomorrow.

What is Individual Therapy like? In our first session, you and I will be getting to know each other. I will ask you questions about what brings you to therapy, what your hopes and dreams are, and what’s hard for you right now. After a few sessions, you and I will set goals for you and we will work towards those goals in each session. It is very common for individuals to not know what their goals are – they just know they don’t want THIS! I can help you untangle what it is you DON’T want and point you towards what you DO want.

What if there are things that I don’t want to talk about? Therapy is often about regaining a sense of choice that has been lost or taken from you. I promise I will not try make you talk about anything that you do not wish to talk about – that would be disrespectful to your sense of choice. You and I can explore the thoughts and feelings you have about these things, what’s scary or hard about talking about them, and then you will be the one who chooses what we talk about.
